She was the tenth of eleven children--all boys but Anna and her sister Johanna. She was christened at Sankt Marien Catholic Church in Alstatte.

In 1871, Anna, her father and sister Johanna and her family all left Germany for America. The traveled together on the "Steamship Ohio" arriving in Baltimore, Maryland 9 Jun 1871. From there they likely took a train to Cincinnati, Ohio where they were met by her brothers who had come over previously.

Anna stayed in Cincinnati for several years likely keeping house for her father and brothers. As they married and moved to their own homes, Anna got a job working as a servant. During this time she met her future husband, Gerhard Heinrich Wessling (1842-1886). About Jan 1879 she and her father moved to Millhousen, Decatur County, Indiana where she married Gerhard on 6 Feb 1879 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

First husband's Full Name: Gerhard Heinrich "George" Wessling.
Gerhard was born in Wuellen, Ahaus, Westfalen, Prussia, Germany. He immigrated to America in 1871 eventually winding up in Millhousen. He married Anna Bessler 6 Feb 1879 in Millhousen.

George initially worked as a laborer. Together with his earnings and wages his wife earned working as a servent in Cincinnati before her marriage they were able to buy some land.

On 8 Sept 1883 they bought 40 acres for $400.00 about a half mile from Millhousen. On this farm they raised cattle and had a small dairy operation.

George and Anna had five children. Anna Marie, Catherina Elizabeth, Henry Herman, Maria Adeleida and Herman Henry. The first four children died between the ages of 9 and 18 months. Only Herman Henry (1886-1919) lived to adulthood. Herman married 4 Feb 1913 in Pierz, Minnesota to Marie Schulte (1893-1981) & had four children: Ida, Herman, Alex & Martha. He homesteaded in Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan, Canada.

George died 1 June 1886 and on 19 July 1886 Anna Wessling sold the 40 acre farm for $475.00. She remained in Millhousen with her only child, Herman, until November of 1888.

On 28 Nov 1888 Anna married Henrich Gerwing, a widower with nine children, and moved to Morrison County in Minnesota. They later had two children, Albert (1889-1955) & Gerhard (1891-1908). They eventually immigrated to Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1904.
